Our name was inspired by the almost transcendent draw locals experience when describing our region: a little pocket of the Appalachian Mountains that more than makes up for its size in vast wildlands, breathtaking views, charming towns, and good ‘ole Southern hospitality.

If you’re new to the area, we recommend starting with our Quiz to discover which kind of adventurer you are, or heading on over to our Adventures page. There, you’ll find curated trip ideas and highlights to help you get started on your journey. Once you’ve found something you want to do, just be sure to add it to your Field Guide so you can easily keep track of all the places you plan to visit. Your Field Guide can also be downloaded and sent to your email so that you can easily take it along during your journey!

Located along the thoroughfares of I75, US 25, and Highway 80, we’re comprised of eight counties and cities—including Rockcastle-Mt. Vernon, London-Laurel County, Corbin, Whitley County, Bell County, Barbourville, Manchester, and Harlan. The ATKY coalition is dedicated to showcasing the area's unique attractions and inviting visitors to experience the magic of Southeastern Kentucky—a region that beckons travelers to wander yonder.
